About Four in a Row

Four in a Row is the classic disc-dropping strategy game for two, ready to play instantly in your browser. Take turns dropping red and yellow discs into a seven-column, six-row board; each disc falls to the lowest free space in its column. The first player to line up four discs of their colour, across, up and down, or on a diagonal, wins the round. The rules take ten seconds to learn, but every move matters: build threats in two places at once, keep an eye on your opponent's diagonals, and think about which spaces you are setting up for the other player. Challenge the computer on three difficulty levels. Easy is relaxed and makes mistakes, so children and beginners get a fair shot; Medium always takes a win and blocks yours while still playing a little loosely; Hard looks seven moves ahead and punishes every slip, so beating it is something to be proud of. Want to play a friend instead? Two-player mode lets you share one phone, tablet or computer, passing turns back and forth. Discs drop with a little bounce, the winning line lights up, and the game keeps your running score of wins, draws and losses for every difficulty, along with points for each win against the computer. Players take turns going first so every series is fair. Four in a Row is free, works on any device, and needs no download or sign-up.

How to play

Tap or click a column to drop a disc into it. It falls to the lowest empty space. On a keyboard, press 1 to 7, or move with the left and right arrows and press Enter. Players take turns; the first to connect four discs in a horizontal, vertical or diagonal line wins. If the board fills up with no line of four, the round is a draw. Use the Mode button to play the computer (Easy, Medium or Hard) or a friend on the same device.
