Tic-Tac-Toe
About Tic-Tac-Toe
Tic-Tac-Toe is the classic game of noughts and crosses, rebuilt with big colourful pieces, bouncy animations and a computer opponent that never turns down another round. Two players take turns placing an X or an O on a three-by-three grid, and the first to line up three of their marks in a row, a column or a diagonal wins. It takes seconds to learn, so it fits into any short break, yet there is real strategy hiding in those nine squares: grabbing the centre, setting up a fork with two threats at once and blocking your opponent before they block you. Play against the computer on three difficulty levels. Easy makes plenty of mistakes and is great for younger players, Medium never misses an obvious win or block, and Hard plays perfectly, so holding it to a draw is a real achievement. Prefer a human rival? Switch to two-player mode and pass the phone or share the keyboard with a friend or family member. The game keeps your running score of wins, losses and draws for every difficulty, awards points for each win and draw against the computer, and alternates who goes first each round so every match is fair. Tic-Tac-Toe is free to play in your browser on phones, tablets and computers, with nothing to download and no sign-up needed.
How to play
Tap an empty square to place your mark, or press the keys 1 to 9 (1 is the top-left square, 9 the bottom-right). Players take turns, and the first to get three marks in a row, across, down or diagonally, wins the round. If all nine squares fill up with no line of three, the round is a draw. Use the Mode button to switch between playing the computer (Easy, Medium or Hard) and two players on one device. Players take turns going first.
