2048
About 2048
2048 is a calm number puzzle with more depth than it first shows. It runs in your browser on a phone or a computer, and there is nothing to install. The board is a 4Ã4 grid. Every time you slide the tiles up, down, left or right, all of them move as far as they can in that direction, and two tiles with the same number that bump into each other merge into one tile worth their sum: two 2s become a 4, two 4s become an 8, and so on. After every move a new 2 or 4 appears in an empty cell, so the board slowly fills up. Your goal is to keep merging until you build a single 2048 tile, and then, if you like, keep going for 4096 and beyond. The game ends when the grid is full and no two neighbouring tiles match. Our version keeps the rules you know and adds a few comforts: smooth sliding and merging animations, a clear score and best score, swipe controls tuned for phones, arrow-key and WASD controls on a keyboard, light and dark themes, and an undo button for the moment a stray swipe ruins a great run. Your current game is saved automatically, so you can close the tab and continue later. 2048 rewards planning more than speed. Most strong players pick one corner, keep their largest tile there, and build a descending chain of numbers along one edge so merges flow towards that corner. Avoid moving in the one direction that pulls the big tile out of its corner unless you have no other choice. A game usually takes ten to twenty minutes, which makes it a good brain break between tasks.
How to play
Swipe on the board, or press the arrow keys or W, A, S, D, to slide every tile in that direction. When two tiles with the same number touch, they merge into one tile with double the value and you score that many points. A new 2 or 4 appears after each move. Make a tile with the number 2048 to win, then keep playing for a higher score. The game is over when the board is full and no move can merge any tiles. Use Undo (after a short ad) to take back your last move, and New game to start fresh.
Questions
Is this 2048 game free?īŧ
Yes. You can play as often as you like for free, with no download and no sign-up. Signing in only adds cloud saves and a place on the leaderboard.

You see a win screen and can choose Keep going. The board stays as it is and you can aim for 4096, 8192 and higher scores.
Can I undo a move?īŧ
Yes. Undo takes back your last move after a short rewarded ad. You can undo up to five moves in a row, and it also works on the game over screen.
Does my game save if I close the page?īŧ
Yes. The current board, score and best score are saved automatically after every move and restored when you come back.
What is the best strategy for 2048?īŧ
Keep your highest tile in one corner, build a descending row of tiles next to it, and mostly use only two or three directions so the big tile never leaves its corner.
