Reflex Duel
About Reflex Duel
Reflex Duel is a lightning-fast reaction game about the oldest showdown there is: two swordfighters standing still in the wind, waiting for the signal. The moment a red exclamation mark flashes above them, the first one to strike wins the round: you strike with a single tap, a click or the Space bar. Strike even a moment too early and you stumble forward and lose, so the real test is keeping your nerve. Twelve opponents wait in three places, the Village, the Bamboo Forest and the Mountain Temple, from a Sleepy Tanuki and a Young Ronin to a Lucky Cat, a Shadow Ninja, a Blue Oni and finally the Old Master, and each one is quicker than the last. From the fourth duel on they also play tricks: a grey question mark, a crow flying across the sky. Anything that is not the red sign is a trap. Each duel is the best of three rounds, and your reaction time is shown in milliseconds after every clean strike; beat a duel with an average under 380 milliseconds for two stars and under 280 milliseconds for three. Your best reaction time is saved, and you can challenge a friend on the same device in two-player mode, one tapping each side of the screen. Reflex Duel plays free in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer.
How to play
Wait without moving. When the red "!" appears, tap the screen, click, or press Space as fast as you can. If you strike before the signal, or at a fake such as a grey "?" or a passing bird, you lose the round. Win two rounds to beat an opponent. In two-player mode, player one taps the left half of the screen (or presses A) and player two the right half (or presses L).
Questions
What is a good reaction time?īŧ
Most people react in 250 to 350 milliseconds. Under 280 ms earns three stars; the last opponents strike in under 300 ms, so you will need to be sharp.
Why did I lose when I was fast?īŧ
You probably struck at a fake signal or a moment before the real one. Only the red exclamation mark counts, not the grey question mark, not the bird.
Can I play against a friend?īŧ
Yes. Choose 2 Players: each player taps their own half of the screen, or uses the A and L keys on a keyboard.
Does my device make a difference?īŧ
A little. The game measures from the moment your tap or key press arrives, but screens and touch panels add a few milliseconds of their own.
