Slide Puzzle
About Slide Puzzle
Slide Puzzle is a fresh take on the classic sliding tile puzzle, the one with a single empty space that has kept people thinking for well over a century. A colourful picture is cut into square tiles and shuffled; your job is to slide the tiles around the board, one gap at a time, until the picture is whole again. Every tile also carries a small number, so you can solve by the picture, by the numbers, or both, and tiles that are already in their home square light up green so you can see your progress at a glance. Choose your challenge: the quick three-by-three board suits beginners and short breaks, the four-by-four board is the famous fifteen puzzle, and the five-by-five board is a real test of planning and patience. Each new game deals a different picture: a space trip with a ringed planet and a rocket, a bright underwater scene, a fruit party and a rainbow day, and every shuffle is guaranteed to be solvable. Slide a single tile or a whole row at once with one tap, swipe across the board on a phone, or use the arrow keys on a keyboard. Stuck? Use Peek to see the finished picture for a moment. The game counts your moves and time, remembers your best result for each board size, and saves an unfinished puzzle so you can come back to it later. Slide Puzzle is free to play in your browser on phones, tablets and computers.
How to play
Tap a tile in the same row or column as the empty space to slide it (and any tiles between) into the gap. You can also swipe on the board or press the arrow keys: the tile next to the gap moves in the direction you choose. Put every tile back in order (1 in the top-left corner, counting along each row) to complete the picture. Numbers turn green when a tile is in its home square. Press Peek to see the finished picture, and New to pick a board size.
